Parent, Caregiver, Family Member Peer Training is a dynamic training to support the continued growth and development of Certified Peer Support Specialists. This is a specialization training, approved by CalMHSA to further distinguish peer specialists in areas of specialized services.. 

Our Parent, Caregiver, Family Member Peer Training is engaging, relevant, challenging and transformative. This training holds the high expectation that people can overcome challenges and succeed. Recovery is not an exception, it is the expectation.  

Aligned to the National Federation of Families Core Competencies, this course trains the principles of an in-depth evidence-based approach. All of RI International trainings adhere to the core competencies as set forth by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA); Mental Health America (MHA), Veteran’s Health Administration (VHA) and the National Association of Peer Supporters (NAPS).  

Format   

Virtual Instructor-led Training (VILT) Homework, Exercises and Grades in Canvas LMS.  

Learning Objectives   

  • Demonstrate adult learning principles and retention strategies to design and deliver instruction that maximizes learning transfer     
  • Explore ways to work with resistance  
  • Demonstrate three skills in creating and maintaining a learning environment in the classroom  
  • Identify the skills, style and responsibilities of a group leader  

Target Audience   

Certified Peer Support Specialists, Parents, Caregivers and Family Members of those living with a mental health/substance use challenges.

Technical Requirements   

Each applicant must have access to an internet-connected computer equipped with a functional webcam, microphone, and speakers that can all remain in use throughout the entirety of training.
